Statement
It is my desire to honor and celebrate the natural world by creating bold, yet delicate, new "landscapes, " rich with color, soul and imagination. My work is created through a unique pocess of sopntaneously layering "free flowing" color and mark-making with carefully rendered organic forms. These forms or "characters, " such as wings, sprouts, hives, stars, branches, petals and pods co-mingle with vibrant color fields to tell stories of magical places born from dreams, close observation and a deep connection to all living things. I draw inspiration from both microscopic perspectives (often finding myself crawling on the forest floor) to cosmic perspectives (lots of nights staring at the sky and moon). Ultimately, I consider my work to be a celebraton of the present moment; chaotic, subtle, mystical and ever-changing.
Bio
Flora S. Bowley's paintings are bold, colorful and rich, while remaining thoughtful, delicate and playful. Her large work on canvas and smaller works on bamboo are easily recognized and admired by galleries and art lovers across the U. S.
Flora lives and works full-time as a painter in Portland, OR, where she is inspired by magical forests, abundant gardens and a vibrant community of fellow artists. Each winter, she leaves the Northwest rain behind to find inspiration in colorful tropical locations. Soon, Flora will blend her passion for art with her love of yoga and people into a new workshop, "Bloom True: Intuitive Painting with Soul!"

"I just took another look at your work. Wow, I'm enthralled, it's breathtaking. To me the work is very spiritual because it goes way beyond the apparent first glance of the natural world and captures a timelss moment, beyond time that is. Non-abstract images that read as abstract (I love that) reminds me of quantum physics in that what we perceive as a solid world is actually an energy soup. You are capturing the essence of the material world and the spirit underneath it."
